Helping people directly affected by the bushfires

Helping people directly affected by the bushfires

22 January, 2020

On 12 of January 2020, The Australian Government announced $76 million in funding through the ‘Mental Health response to Bushfire Trauma’. This funding has been allocated to 12 Primary Health Networks with communities directly affected by the bushfire. The additional funding is to support the mental health of the affected communities through:

  • Immediate counselling

  • Additional mental health services

  • Bushfire trauma response coordination

  • Community connectedness and recovery grants

  • Additional headspace centres/ satellites

Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network is not the recipient of additional funding; however our existing mental health services can offer support to people who have been directly affected by the bushfires.

Contact EMPHN’s Mental Health Referral and Access team to find out what supports are available. The team includes mental health clinicians who are able to assess clinical risk, triage as required and assist people to identify and access the service that best suits their needs.
