Last Friday afternoon, EMPHN staff gathered in the beautiful surrounds of the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary. We came together to reflect on equality, bias and how we can work to Close the Gap as an organisation. Our afternoon commenced with a Welcome to Country from Aunty Julie Coombes who welcomed us to the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung with warmth and generosity. We then listened to Alice Young, a Yorta Yorta, Gunai, Gundtijmara woman who currently lives on Wurundjeri Country introduce her daughter Nora and their work through the Dhungala Dancers to share Culture and explore awareness of our prejudices. They shared a dance with us and then we all joined in a reflection of our own feelings. We wrapped up our day with a dance and delicious afternoon tea.
