Flu Vaccination in Residential Aged Care Facilities by 1 May 2020

Flu Vaccination in Residential Aged Care Facilities by 1 May 2020

20 April, 2020

Given the COVID-19 environment and the high risk environment of Residential Aged Care Facilities, there is a requirement for all workers to have flu immunisation before the 1st of May 2020, and for the residents to also be immunised. This timeframe has been set by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and announced by the Prime Minister.

The Department of Health understands that some residential aged care facilities may be having difficulty accessing supply of vaccinations and/or access to appropriately qualified vaccine administrators to administer the vaccination to staff and residents. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there has been an increased demand for the influenza vaccination.

The department of health has requested the Primary Health Networks to assist in coordinating access to influenza vaccination for staff and residents of residential aged care facilities, where there is a need identified. To assist us in supporting your residential aged care facility in meeting this requirement by 1 May 2020, please follow the link to answer questions regarding your key contact person within the organisation, as well as providing further information regarding your need for flu vaccinations.
