Celebrating headspace Lilydale's first birthday and official launch

26 August, 2022

Young people in the Yarra Ranges celebrate first birthday with the official launch event of headspace service in Lilydale.

The headspace satellite site, located in Lilydale initially offered services via phone and online in 2021 to fast-track support to young people in the community prior to the site opening for in-person services.

headspace Lilydale compliments its parent site, headspace Knox, by providing youth services in the Yarra Ranges. With COVID-19 and other the environmental pressures causing challenges for many people, the centre provides support young people aged 12 to 25 years to access youth-oriented mental health professionals, general practitioners, drug and alcohol counsellors and support access to vocational and social service providers.

Funded by the Australian Government through the Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (EMPHN), headspace Lilydale is operated by EACH, who support young people’s mental health in eastern and south-east Melbourne through headspace sites in Knox, Pakenham and Narre Warren.

“The impacts of COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting disruption to study and work, financial stress and social isolation has challenged the mental health and wellbeing of many young people in the community. As a service provider in the Yarra Ranges with decades of experience in delivering a range of integrated health and support services, we understand how vital it is to have easy access to mental health and other support services that are youth focused.” EACH CEO Natalie Sullivan said.

“Lilydale headspace has provided a sustainable and integrated service for the young people in the Shire of Yarra Ranges. With increases in cases of mental health disorders in Victoria, addressing the needs and providing access to local support services to at-risk and vulnerable young people in the local community is vital.” EMPHN CEO Janine Wilson adds.

Federal Member for Casey, Aaron Viloli MP, praises the service for young people in the community.

“Growing up in Yarra Glen, I know first-hand how important having a service like this is in Lilydale, to be easily accessible for young people through the Yarra Valley and Upper Yarra as well as Lilydale and surrounding suburbs.”

headspace strongly encourages young people who feel overwhelmed, particularly during times of uncertainty to reach out and seek support. headspace Lilydale delivers services to young people in-person, via phone and online.
