Cancer Survivorship Clinical Placement for GPs and Practice Nurses

19 February, 2018

General practice coordinates and provides holistic care to cancer survivors. The Clinical Placement Program in Cancer Survivorship aims to improve access to quality cancer survivorship care through enhancing capacity of primary care professionals (including GPs, practice nurses and community based allied health professionals) to deliver appropriate services and information.

Primary care professionals including GPs, practice nurses and community-based allied health professionals are invited to apply for a free clinical placement opportunity at oncology specialist clinics across Victoria to improve their skills and knowledge in cancer survivorship care.

Clinical placements at Peter Mac, Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Royal Women's Hospital have commenced. Western Health and Austin Health will be offering placements in 2018.

By participating in the program, you will be able to attend:

  • GPs: three specialist clinics (~10 hours)
  • Practice nurses and allied health professionals: two specialist clinics (~7 hours)

Specialist clinics are offered across a range of cancer types and stages of management including treatment and investigation planning after initial referral and post-treatment care.

  • One multidisciplinary team meeting (MDM) with oncology specialists including medical and radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, surgeons, pathologists and allied health professionals.
  • Optional workshops (Cat 2 accreditation for GPs) and CPD recognition.

As part of the application process, you will be required to set some personal learning goals for your placement. These will be shared with your host site to optimise learning. This activity is endorsed by APNA, RACGP (Cat 1) and ACRRM. All participants will receive a certificate of completion upon completion.
