Eastern Melbourne PHN (EMPHN) has helped general practice, North
Mitcham Clinic, each step of the way as they have built My Health Record into
their daily work.
My Health Record is a secure online summary of patient health information which allows patients to control their information and who has access to it.
Sarah Crowe, Assistant Clinic Coordinator at North Mitcham Clinic, said that EMPHN’s help was a vital part of her practice adopting this new technology.
Whenever I’ve had issues, Kirsty (EMPHN Digital Health Officer) has been very helpful with whatever that might be, how to fix it . . . all the correspondence we’ve been getting is great too,” Sarah said.
Sarah encouraged other practices to be proactive in integrating My Health Record into their operations.
“Certainly, get in contact with your PHN and get some
training, and some resources and explanations.
“I would definitely go with the idea of choosing one doctor or one nurse, or
choosing two or three staff members who would be keen to assist and to train
others,” Sarah said.
Sarah said she has already seen patients from her practice
benefit from My Health Record.
“We have had patients go to Queensland, when something has gone wrong, they go
see a doctor and given them permission to login to their My Health Record and
they’ve had access to all their medications and other important information."
Sarah said the My Health Record was particularly useful for emergencies.
“There’s no argument against it really. If you’ve got special conditions for example or allergies, it could just save so many lives."
“I think it’s really good, it’s the way of the future for medical records,” Sarah said.
