The Victoria Government announced it will establish 25 new GP-led Priority Primary Care Centres (PPCCs) to improve access to primary care, particularly in the after hours period, and ease pressure on emergency departments.
The PPCCs will open after hours, be partnered with emergency departments and provide care for people with condition that require urgent attention but not an emergency response – for example, mild infections, fractures and burns. They will also offer pathology and imaging services.
Commissioning for the first tranche of five sites is underway (Northern and Monash sites in the EMPHN catchment) and are funded for 15 months of operation commencing September/October.
Funding has been announced for an additional 20 PPCCs to operate for 12 months, to commence service delivery by the end of 2022.
