Nurse Immunisation Education Scholarship Opportunity

Primary Health Networks (PHNs) were established to improve coordination of care to ensure patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes.

The Vulnerable People Vaccination Program is a specific program funded by the Australian Government to ensure continued access to COVID-19 vaccinations for vulnerable populations. As part of this program, Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (EMPHN) are looking at targeted, sustainable, short-term COVID-19 vaccination activities including maximising vaccination access by upskilling Registered Nurses to become Nurse Immunisers.

Aim:

To increase the capability of registered nurses working within primary care to administer immunisations to eligible persons as credentialed nurse immunisers.

The program:

Eastern Melbourne PHN are offering 30 Nurse Immuniser Education Scholarships. Registered Division 1 Nurses working within general practice in the EMPHN catchment are invited to submit an expression of interest application. We ask that you outline how undertaking this course will directly benefit you and your role in primary care, increasing both routine and other recommended (ie. COVID-19) vaccinations within the community, particularly for vulnerable populations.

The course:

  • National Immunisation Program for Healthcare Practitioners delivered by the Australian College of Nursing
  • HESA accredited (Health Education Services Australia)
  • Is online, flexible and self-paced
  • Must be completed in a minimum 21 days, maximum 120 days
  • Must be completed by 30 October 2024
  • Is equivalent to 80 CPD points

Eligibility requirements:

If applying for this opportunity, nurses must meet the following requirements in order to receive a scholarship:

  • Must be a AHPRA Registered Division 1 Nurse
  • Must be practicing at a general practice withing the EMPHN catchment
  • Must be able to commence the course by 1 July 2024
  • Your application for this scholarship needs to be endorsed by your clinic/Manager
  • Be willing to undertake 120 hours online, self-paced study (CPD hours) withing the required timeframe
  • Agree to reimburse EMPHN the full cost of the course ($500) should they be unbel to complete the course in the required timeframe provided
  • Applicants agree for details to be shared with the course provided (Australian college of Nursing) for the purpose of enrolment, course progression and to share evaluation results with EMPHN
