Course Description

Suturing is a fundamental skill for those working in emergency, minor trauma clinics, general practice and rural and remote settings.

This suturing course provides the theoretical and practical essentials to close and manage non-complex traumatic lacerations, biopsies and surgical excisions.

The emphasis is on the fundamentals of gaining closure, eliminating dead space and scar minimisation working within your technical ability, scope of practice and workplace policy and procedure to provide high-level patient care.

The course is ideally suited to nurses, medical students and doctors that have little or no suturing experience or wish to advance their current basic skill of only using single interrupted suturing technique.

The course is a combination of:
• Eight online modules covering: wound cleaning and debridement, local anaesthetic, knot tying, suturing techniques, other closure methods and post-closure management.
• One day of face-to-face skills training workshop using simulated and pig skin.
