One implication of codeine-rescheduling for GPs is the need to assist patients who are assessed as opioid dependent. All GPs can prescribe buprenorphine/naloxone for up to five patients without completing face-to-face training.
To assist GPs to prepare for prescribing, RACGP Victoria has released a 16 minute video, Buprenorphine/Naloxone – Safe Prescribing, presented by Dr Paul Grinzi, member of RACGP Victoria’s Drug and Alcohol Committee.
Dr Grinzi is a GP experienced in prescribing opioid replacement therapies in general practice.
The video provides guidance on pharmacology, patient assessment, and prescribing requirements.
