CHO Health Alert: Influenza vaccine supply

CHO Health Alert: Influenza vaccine supply

25 May, 2018

Status: Active

Date issued: 25 May 2018

Issued by: Professor Charles Guest, Chief Health Officer, Victoria

Issued to: Health professionals, immunisation providers

Key messages

  • Due to unprecedented demand across Australia for influenza vaccine in 2018, there is now no stock available for order in Victoria of Fluarix Tetra, FluQuadri, Afluria Quad, Fluzone High Dose and Fluad.
  • There is limited stock of FluQuadri Junior licensed for use in children aged six months to under three years old available for order.
  • If you have influenza vaccine in stock, prioritise vaccination of children aged six months to under five years first (if the brand can be provided to those children), and then prioritise all other persons in risk groups eligible under the National Immunisation Program.
  • Avoid using remaining stock to immunise people who are not in either of these two categories, in order to conserve remaining vaccine for those highest at risk of the complications of influenza.
