Update: changes to the ways doctors and clinics access AIR

Further information for practices that registered with AIR before 9 September 2018.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is beginning the transition from authentication file to Provider Digital Access (PRODA) to access the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) site via Health Professional Online Services (HPOS).

Clinicians with a Medicare provider number (i.e. medical practitioners, nurse practitioners and midwives) can already create a PRODA account.

From 31 August 2019, DHS will switch off the individual authentication file for this group of providers. They will then access AIR via the AIR tile on their HPOS account via their PRODA log-in.

If medical practice staff require access to the AIR site from 31 August 2019, they must use their practice’s AIR provider number. This identifies the organisation rather than the individual clinician.

  • If your medical practice is not yet registered as a vaccination provider on the AIR, you should register now. This will ensure continuous access to the AIR site for your staff during the transition to PRODA.
  • If your medical practice registers as a vaccination provider between 1 July and 30 September 2019, DHS will issue your practice an authentication file. Your staff can use this to access the AIR site until DHS transitions practices to PRODA in early 2020.
  • If your practice became a recognised vaccination provider before 9 September 2018, you must complete the online request access form to access the AIR site if you have not already done so.

To register as a vaccination provider, submit the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) - application to register as a vaccination provider form (IM004).

Post or email the form to the DHS address on page 2. Do not submit to state or territory health department for approval.
