Better Together – lived experience project launch

17 September, 2019

The Yeng Gali Mullum Choir and EMPHN choir

EMPHN recently launched its ‘Better Together’ lived experience project for mental health consumers, carers, peer workers, and community members from across the region.

Commencing with a rousing rendition of Bill Wither’s song ‘Lean on Me’, by the Yeng Gali Mullum Choir and EMPHN choir, the forum brought together people who have a personal lived experience of mental health issues and/or alcohol and other drugs issues, to learn about the focus of the project and how they can contribute.

Close to 100 forum attendees heard from lived experience guest speakers, including Jo Farmer and Amelia Walters, together with La Trobe University Professor Lisa Brophy, who discussed the value of peer support work.

EMPHN's consultants Redpanther, a lived experience-led consultancy, will review current approaches to lived experience influence and involvement in the region and formulate an approach to incorporating lived experience in service design and delivery.
